Question by Julia: What causes generalized/social anxiety disorder?
I have social anxiety disorder for about 3 years now. I’m not sure what caused it but I remember when I was a kid, I was utterly shy. I’ve been so until high school. Just a year after high school, first I had generalized anxiety disorder with agoraphobia, then social anxiety disorder. Analyzing my life, I would say it’s possible it has something to do with my overprotective family and having a tough childhood. But I see people with this disorder who never had a serious problem and still doesn’t have one.

What causes this disorder? I ask both medical explanation AND your guesses.

I think its the way you were raised, you get all your social skills between the ages of 1-5 if you were a neglected child during these years and was shown little affection. you will have the disorder

Hi, i have an anxiety disorder…and it seems like every day, i wake up and feel nervous, as soon as i get up…if i start doing something (like mow the lawn, make the bed) anything, it goes away, but it sucks. is anyone else like this?

it could be the beginning of panic disorder. i have that, and if i’m not careful i have a tendency to get panic attacks if i’m too stressed out. i was prescribed paxil for a while, but now i’m off it and doing better. i went to see a psychologist and that helped a lot too. and i’ve been doing exercises to help keep me calm and thinking less stressful thoughts.

From the hypotheses explaining its causes, what is the MOST ACCEPTABLE cause of this disorder to you? And may I have 2 reasons why?

And what do you think is the most effective (or appropriate) treatment that can be applied?

Anxiety is caused by different types of things,or situations. People suffer from many types of anxiety.I also suffer from anxiety.Really the only treatment there is ,is medication,at least that’s what I’m told.Going to talk to a counselor helps some.

Is it true that stress causes acne, because generalized anxiety disorder definitely causes stress (and a lot of it). But I was wondering: how much of my acne does that account for?

it depends on your type of acne because i have an anxiety disorder too and my skin is clear…except sometimes i get a difficult pimple once in a while but its because im in the age of acne you know so its not just because of that it could be.
