Question by Julia: What causes generalized/social anxiety disorder?
I have social anxiety disorder for about 3 years now. I’m not sure what caused it but I remember when I was a kid, I was utterly shy. I’ve been so until high school. Just a year after high school, first I had generalized anxiety disorder with agoraphobia, then social anxiety disorder. Analyzing my life, I would say it’s possible it has something to do with my overprotective family and having a tough childhood. But I see people with this disorder who never had a serious problem and still doesn’t have one.

What causes this disorder? I ask both medical explanation AND your guesses.

I think its the way you were raised, you get all your social skills between the ages of 1-5 if you were a neglected child during these years and was shown little affection. you will have the disorder

Question by luivalor2005: What causes anxiety or pannic attacks, I mean not only stress, but some illnes or medical conditions?
I suffer reactive hypoglycemia, I lost about 20% of my hearing in my right ear and I was diagnosed with Chron’s decease and later told that was a severe infection in the final portion of the small intestine called Ilium, I’m 31 years old I have no prior symptoms of anxiety and I was searching and found that this may cause or trigger the attacks, has anyone heard about seredyn to end the attacks.

Hey there. Sounds like you have alot going on right now, and I hope that you can find some relief soon. As you mentioned in your question, medical issues and illnesses CAN cause anxiety and panic attacks, and so can some genetic and social factors. It sounds like you could benefit from some counseling, to give you some support as you manage your illnesses, but also to check in with your anxiety symptoms. I have heard of the seredyn drug before, but not as much as I have heard about Ativan, Zoloft, Seroquel, or Wellbutrin for anxiety symptoms and panic attacks. Defintely talk with your doctor, and perhaps a counselor, just to get some extra support and some answers to your question.

Question by ~-GaNjA-SmItH-~: Am I having anxiety attacks and what causes it?
Past couple days id be fine and then all of a sudden my heart would start racing, i would feel like i have a shortness of breath, thoughts of having heart attacks or dieing come to my head, SOMETIMES heart beats one time funny like where its real noticeable, and sometimes get mild chest pains.
i been prescribed to prozac for like 2 years now and i just quit taking it like 2 months ago w/o askin doctor.. i told my doctor this and he said that that wat is causing these attacks.. anxiety attacks.. i started taking my medicine again but the doc says it will take a few weeks before my body gets use to it and the attacks to stop.
is this wat is wrong or is it something else, and quittin takin prozac causes this and will it stop since i started bak? thanks.
im 19 yrs old, btw.

follow your drs. advise and ask him to have tests done for your heart. if you know your heart is fine your anxiety might even stop.

Is it true that stress causes acne, because generalized anxiety disorder definitely causes stress (and a lot of it). But I was wondering: how much of my acne does that account for?

it depends on your type of acne because i have an anxiety disorder too and my skin is clear…except sometimes i get a difficult pimple once in a while but its because im in the age of acne you know so its not just because of that it could be.

If someone has social anxiety disorder and also AD(H)D, and would normally fidget and move around constantly while alone, could their fear of being criticised for their movements while in the prescence of others cause them to remain still or ‘paralysed’?

Defiantly not! I have ADD and social anxiety. I don’t stop moving…ever. Even in public where people look at me funny for fidgeting all the time. It just makes me worse because then i get nervous and feel the need to fidget more. It becomes terribly annoying to my mum and people i am around regulary.
